Quarto

Reference management for Quarto

Use a CiteDrive project URL as the bibliography of a .qmd file. Quarto picks up new references from that URL.

Why Quarto users choose CiteDrive

  • One library for every output

Articles, books, and websites can share the same references. You maintain the library once, not once per .qmd file.

  • The bibliography lives in the YAML header

Put the project URL in bibliography. Quarto fetches the current .bib when you render. There is no file to replace by hand.

  • Pandoc citations that stay current

Cite with [@smith2020]. New references appear the next time you render, in the style the document already uses.

How to connect

  1. Create a project library

Collect the references for the document in a CiteDrive project. Invite collaborators when more than one person is writing.

  2. Paste the URL into the YAML header

Copy the project URL into the bibliography field of your .qmd file. The same URL works for papers, books, and websites.

  3. Cite with Pandoc keys

Quarto uses Pandoc citation syntax, such as [@smith2020]. Render the document whenever the library changes.
